Arkansas Falls Short In Overtime Thriller

Arkansas RimRockers News Release

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Dec. 29 - The Tulsa 66ers exploded with a 7-0 run to start overtime, as they outscored Arkansas 12-7 in the extra period to defeat the RimRockers 103-98 in overtime on Friday night at Alltel Arena.

Brandon Dean hit a three point basket as time expired at the end of regulation to force the extra session. Tulsa had led by as many as 18 points in the game, but a strong second half had the RimRockers back in the game.

"We can't allow teams to get double digit leads on us like that," said RimRockers Head Coach Andy Stoglin. "We aren't good enough to win when we give up a big lead early. We have to play all four quarters to give us a chance."

Tulsa's Will Conroy controlled most of the game while recording his first triple-double of the season with 16 points, 10 boards, and a game high 11 assists.

Arkansas was led by 19 points and 3 blocks from Marcus Campbell, who started his third straight game in the absence of injured Matt Haryasz. Brain Jackson contributed with 13 and 10 rebounds and off the bench Jonathan Moore collected 8 and 10.

"Coach put his faith in me and put me in the game," said Campbell. "That made me play harder. We need to start better so we can win"

The 66ers dominated the first quarter, causing several RimRockers miscues, and broke out to a 26-13 lead. An 8-2 burst to start the second period had the RimRockers back within single digits, but Tulsa responded and ended the half with a 52-37 halftime lead.

A strong defensive effort in the third quarter forced Tulsa into several turnovers, and Arkansas pulled within 4 at quarters break. A seesaw battle in the final period of regulation kept the game close until the Dean three-pointer sent it into overtime.

The RimRockers will look to settle the score as they host the Tulsa 66ers in a Saturday night rematch at Alltel Arena. Game time is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
