Arkansas Drops Close Game to Tulsa

(North Little Rock, AR) - The Arkansas Twisters led the majority of its game against rival Tulsa, but the Talons led when it mattered most and snapped Arkansas' six game win streak against Tulsa in front of 5662 fans on Allstate Field at Alltel Arena.

Arkansas scored 24 points in the second quarter to take a 38-21 half time lead. Newcomer Jamaal Perry scored three of his four total touchdowns in the first half.

Tulsa quarterback Justin Allgood was intercepted by Mo Taylor to open the second half, and the Twisters drove down field and scored to up its lead to 44-21. Perry scored the last of his four touchdowns when he caught a 24 yard pass from Kyle Rowley.

The Twisters and Talons exchanged scores to put the score at 50-28. Allgood found Kellen Allen near the end of the third quarter for a score and the extra point pulled Tulsa within 50-35.

Allgood continued to find Allen and Jeff Hughley for scores. Tulsa pulled within eight when Allgood found Hughley on a short touchdown to cap a two play touchdown drive.

Arkansas (0-2) went up by two scores again when Rowley found Patrick Rouzard for a 13 yard score, but Tulsa continued to answer. Allgood hit Allen on an 11 yard pass play to cap another two play drive and the extra point pulled the Talons within 57-49.

Tulsa (3-0) tied the game at 57 when the Talons drove 24 yards in two plays and Allgood found Jermaine Landrum for a five yard score. He hit Landrum again for the two point conversion to even the score.

The Twisters appeared to have the game put away when kicker James Paul nailed a 25 yard field goal with 12 seconds on the clock. But Tulsa had one last scoring drive left.

After Paul's kickoff sailed out of bounds to give Tulsa the ball at the their own 20 yard, Allgood heaved a 30 yard prayer that was answered by Hughley. He reached up, made the catch and held onto the ball when slammed to the ground to give the Talons its first lead of the game. Luke Phillips gave Tulsa a four point lead with the extra point.

Arkansas had just four seconds to score, but Rowley was sacked by C. J. McLain and the streak was over.

Rowley finished the game by completing 27 of 43 passes for 303 yards and six total touchdowns. Perry had a game high 12 catches for 143 yards and four total touchdowns. Rouzard finished with 11 catches 121 yards and three touchdowns.

Allgood completed 20 of 30 passes for 317 yards and nine total touchdowns. Allen hauled in nine catches for a game high 155 yards and three touchdowns. Hughley caught six passes for 111 yards and three scores.

The Twisters' six game win streak was the longest such streak in the af2's longest rivalry. Both teams have played each other a total of 18 times, splitting the series nine games apiece.

Arkansas returns to the road to play Corus Christi on Saturday, April 19th at 7pm.
