Arizona Winter League Playoffs Kickoff Tomorrow

YUMA, Ariz. (February 23, 2011) - The Arizona Winter League kicks off its playoffs after an exhilarating fifteen game season over the past month that promises to have an exciting finish.

The Hometown Yuma Scorpions (9-6) won the American Division by two games over the Blythe Heat to take the #2 spot in the Arizona Winter League and locked up a bye awaiting the winner of Western Canada Miners (10-5) and the Sonora Pilots (8-7). Nicholas Naegele, who's batting .428 on the year with two homerun's and sixteen RBIs, leads the Scorpions.

The Saskatchewan SilverSox (11-4) captured the #1 spot in the Arizona Winter League winning the International Division and will play the winner of Team Canada (10-5) and the Blythe Heat (7-8). The SilverSox are lead by cleanup hitter J.J. Muse and his .465 average and one homer and nineteen RBIs in the month long tournament.

Playoffs begin Friday February 25th with the #4 Western Canada Miners taking on the #5 Sonora Pilots at La Voz Field at Desert Sun Stadium at 11:00 am. The Miners have gotten contributions from Sean Boatright and his .513 average two homers and thirteen RBIs and have picked up five wins off the arm of Jared Simon (5-1). The Pilots offense is led by AWL league leader in homeruns Will Wright (3).

The Afternoon game at 1:30 pm at La Voz Field at Desert Sun Stadium matches #3 Team Canada and #6 Blythe Heat. Team Canada, one game short of winning the International Division, employs the AWL league leader in batting average, Jesse Brown, with his .571 batting average. The Heat include a stacked line up that have provided runs from sixteen RBIs from David Carter and fifteen RBIs from Michael Derr.
