Arizona United Falls 2-0 in Opening Match of 2016
March 27, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Phoenix Rising FC News Release
LOS ANGELES - Arizona United Soccer Club began the season with a tough match on road and fell to Los Angeles Galaxy II, 2-0, on Saturday night.
"To go down two goals early in the game is never easy," said Arizona United head coach Frank Yallop. "I thought we were nervous, unsure, almost playing scared in first half, which has not been like us. But, like I said to the guys, 'This is for real now.' "
Los Dos got on the board first following a United penalty in the box. Forward Ari Lassiter took the kick for Galaxy II and buried it for a 1-0 lead.
Twenty minutes later it was Lassiter again for Los Angeles. Teammate Rafa Garcia sprung Lassiter free, who beat goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski one-on-one to make the score 2-0.
"I challenged them at halftime and I told them that in the second half you have to come out and you have to go for it," Yallop said. "And I think we did."
He later added: "All in all, I was pleased with the response to the two early goals. But I wasn't pleased with the result."
Arizona United will be back on the road this Wednesday, March 30, to take on Seattle Sounders FC 2. That match will be at 7:30 PM and can be viewed by going to ArizonaUnited.com.
