Phoenix Rising FC News Release

Arizona United Soccer Club snapped one streak and continued another following a big 3-0 win over Real Monarchs SLC in Orem, Utah. The win snaps a five-match winless streak for the club and extends a streak of matches with at least one goal to 11. Forward Chris Cortez broke the scoreless draw in the 49th minute. His teammate Long Tan sent a cross into the box, forcing the Monarchs' goalkeeper to come out and try to grab the ball. But the goalkeeper mishandled the pass and Cortez was there to bang the rebound into the net for a 1-0 lead. Less than ten minutes later, Tan sent a right-to-left diagonal ball to a sprinting Tyler Blackwood. After bringing the ball down, Blackwood beat the goalkeeper to make it 2-0. Tan scored the third and final goal of the night on a penalty kick. United had no shortage of chances in the first half, too. Blackwood was one-on-one with the goalkeeper in the fourth minute, but his shot was kicked away. Luke Rooney had time and space from about 20 yards away in the 12th minute, but his shot was wide left. Cortez turned and fired a shot from the top of the box in the 27th minute, but he was also wide left. In the 29th minute, Tan tried curling a ball around the goalkeeper, but it was easily saved. And finally, in stoppage time, Julian Ringhof headed a ball from just inside the top of the box, but was denied. Arizona United SC improves to 5-7-6 an the club's 21 points is just two points behind the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The team returns to the Peoria Sports Complex on Saturday, July 30, against Tulsa Roughnecks FC. The match kicks off at 7:30 P.M. Tickets can be purchased at www.ArizonaUnited.com
