Arizona Sundogs News Release
Arizona (33-19-6) is currently riding a three-game winning streak and sits in first place in the Southwest Division with 72 points, four ahead of second place New Mexico. The Sundogs are chasing their first division title in just their second year of existence. In its Inaugural Season, Arizona finished second in the Southwest Division with a 32-28-4 record and 70 points, two shy of Southwest Division Champion New Mexico.
Sundogs Storylines:
- Alex Leavitt leads the CHL in scoring with 107 points (34g/73a) in 52 games played, seven points ahead of Laredo's Jeff Bes. He currently owns an 11-game point streak, having tallied 29 points in that time. Nine of his last 11 games have been multiple-point efforts. The Edmonton, Alberta, native has failed to tally a point in just six games this season. Leavitt is up for the CHL's 'Most Valuable Player' award.
- Defenseman Chris Bartolone ranks fourth in the CHL in scoring among defensemen with 51 points (16g/35a) in 58 games played. He is a plus-14 rating this season. The veteran is up for the CHL's 'Most Outstanding Defenseman' award.
- Fellow defenseman Dan Laperriere ranks fifth in the CHL in scoring among defensemen with 48 points (17g/31a) in 55 games played. He is a plus-8 rating this season.
- Rookie Mark Kolanos ranks third in the CHL in scoring among rookies with 54 points (28g/26a) in 58 games played. The first-year forward is a finalist for the CHL's 'Rookie of the Year' award.
- The Sundogs have six remaining games in the regular season, five of which will be played at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley where the Club is 18-8-1. Five of the six remaining games come against Southwest Division opponents.
- Arizona's powerplay continues to lead the league at 25.91%. They also lead the league with 93 powerplay goals for.
- The Sundogs also own the league's most potent offense, having tallied 253 goals for, 18 more than the next highest (Colorado).
