EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox scattered nine runs throughout the game to beat the Dust Devils, 9-3, Thursday night at home. Shortstop Chris Taylor led the way with three hits (a double and a triple) and two RBI.
Seventeen-year-old Victor Sanchez (4-0, 3.03 ERA) turned in a quality start to earn his fourth win of the season, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks in six innings of work. The 255-pound righty gave struck out five batters and kept the ball on the ground, inducing seven ground balls to just two fly balls.
Josh Slaats (0-1, 3.56 ERA) started for the Dust Devils and walked five Frogs in 4.2 innings. Everett took advantage of the wild right-hander, scoring five runs to take a 5-3 lead through the first five innings.
Between Dominic Leone's three hitless innings of relief and four more runs put on the board by the offense, the AquaSox put the game out of reach with a six-run advantage to win their fourth straight.
Leone, the Mariners' 16th-round pick in the 2012 draft, allowed just one base runner with a walk in the ninth and struck out four batters to earn his first save of the season. The 20-year-old righty out of Clemson University has racked up 19 strikeouts in 15.2 innings thus far.
A big night is on tap for Friday at Memorial Stadium. Mike Zunino, the Mariners' first-round selection and third overall pick of the 2012 draft, is set to make his professional debut, along with a postgame fireworks show to start the weekend off with a bang.
Left-hander Steve Ewing will take the mound for the Sox, and will be opposed by right-hander Ben Hughes of Tri-City.
