Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Johnstown, PA (June 2, 2005)- The ECHL announced on Thursday that Johnstown Chiefs broadcaster John Michael is the 2004-05 recipient of the ECHL Broadcaster Award.
"This is very special to be honored by my peers for this award. I am so thankful for my two years in Johnstown and working in the ECHL. There are a lot of great broadcasters in this league and to receive this recognition is an honor," said Michael.
Michael, who was recently chosen to be the radio play-by-play broadcaster for the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, finished ahead of Ned Bowdern of the Wheeling Nailers in a vote of broadcasters, media relations directors and media members.
Michael was the radio voice for Johnstown the past two seasons and was selected for the NHL Radio broadcast of the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game. He received his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame where he returned to earn both his law degree and MBA degree.
Michael worked for more than four years as a trial attorney at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Pittsburgh before becoming the play-by-play voice for the Hagerstown (Maryland) Suns, a minor league affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. In addition to his broadcast duties with the Chiefs, Michael broadcast baseball, basketball, football and hockey games for the Pittsburgh-based MSA Sports Network which has over 40 affiliates in Western Pennsylvania.
Season ticket and corporate sponsor packages for the 2005-2006 season are now available by calling (814) 539-1799 or 1-800-CHF-TIXX.
