Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Stampede are proud to announce that assistant coach Andy Jones has been named to the coaching staff of the 2009 U.S. Junior Select Team. Jones will serve as an assistant coach when the team competes at the World Junior A Challenge November 1-8 in Summerside, P.E.I. Canada.

"It will be an honor to represent the United States in international competition," reacted Jones. "I am grateful for the opportunity and excited for this unique challenge."

Coach Jones is in his fourth season with the Herd and works primarily with the defense and penalty kill units. In addition to his on ice responsibilities, Jones performs extensive video analysis for the team and each player. Jones helped lead the Stampede to their first-ever Clark Cup championship during his first season in 2007.

"This is a very deserving honor for Andy," replied Stampede head coach Kevin Hartzell. "Not only for what he is doing in Sioux Falls, but also for what he contributes to USA Hockey camps that take place throughout the summer. It is always nice to see good things happen to good, hard working people! Andy will do a great job with Team USA!"

Cedar Rapids head coach/GM Mark Carlson has been named the head coach of Team USA while Indiana Ice head coach/GM Jeff Blashill will serve as the other assistant coach.

This is the fourth year of the World Junior A Challenge and the US is competing for the third consecutive year, capturing the championship in 2008 and a third place finish in 2007. The tournament will feature teams from Belarus, Canada East, Canada west, Russia, Sweden, and the United States. The roster is expected to be announced the week of October 19.

Jones and the Stampede return to the ice this Friday and Saturday when they host Waterloo and Green Bay at the Sioux Falls Arena. Game times are 7:05 PM each night and tickets are still available.
