Sacramento Capitals News Release

Despite all the marvelous talent that the No. 1 junior in the world will bring to the Sacramento Capitals team, there is one dilemma that has the Caps organization scratching their heads: how will her 14-letter surname fit across the back of a Caps jersey? Is there a nickname that can be embroidered easily and make it roll off the speaker's tongue?

"I really don't have any nicknames," says Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. "I even don't know what offer to you. Can you give me some examples, please? I'll try to think of something!"

Pavlyuchenkova says that Russian, English and History are her favorite home-school classes, and she plans to learn French. Australia is her favorite country because it is "interesting and unordinary." But she undoubtedly has a fondness for the continent Down Under because she won the Australian Open junior singles and doubles titles earlier this year. She admits: "It was cool playing a final on centre court at a Grand Slam."

The native Russian, who trains in the Czech Republic, says she enjoys watching Marat Safin and Andy Roddick on court. "I don't have any idols," says the 14-year-old Pavlyuchenkova, "because I don't want to be alike to anyone!"

Her father Sergey has trained her since childhood, but her brother Aleksandr has become her coach. Usually she has tennis practice twice a day and she includes cross-training and gym twice a week. Her day off is Sunday, unless she's winning a final. She favors singles because it depends just on her.

When asked if her strengths are mental or physical, she proclaimed: "Both. It depends on situation. So then I can use necessary one." Weaknesses? "It's my secret!"

In her spare time, she likes to dance and "spend money on unneccessary things." Oh yeah, and these days she's trying to come up with a nickname.
