Anaheim's James White Called Up To Houston Rockets

NEW YORK, March 3, 2009 - The Houston Rockets today announced they have signed guard/forward James White to a 10-day contract. White becomes the 12th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2008-09 NBA Development League season, and the 130th overall since the league began play in 2001.

A 2009 NBA D-League All-Star and the NBA D-League Slam Dunk Champion in Phoenix, White has appeared in 34 games (33 starts) with the Arsenal, where he averaged a league-leading 25.9 points to go with 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 41.1 minutes while shooting 55 percent (291-of-530) from the field. Named NBA D-League Performer of the Week on Jan. 5, White has scored in double figures 33 times, including 11 games where he scored 30 or more points, while recording an NBA D-League season-high 47 points in a 117-113 loss to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Jan. 20, 2009.

Originally drafted in the second round (31st overall) by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2006 NBA Draft, White appeared in 24 games with the eventual NBA champion San Antonio Spurs during the 2006-07 season, when he averaged 8.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 22.8 minutes.

A three-year contributor at Cincinatti, White averaged 16.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 33 games during his final season with the Bearcats, earning All-Big East Honorable Mention honors for his efforts.

White is expected to join the Rockets today and to be available tonight when the team hosts the Toronto Raptors.
