Anaheim Storm News Release
Anaheim, CA (March 13, 2004) - The Anaheim Storm (1-10) hosted their second largest crowd of the season tonight showing that the popularity of lacrosse is continuing to grow in Southern California. The 4,910 Storm fans witnessed the team's third overtime game as they battled the Vancouver Ravens (4-8).
"The support in Southern California has been tremendous," said Stephen Sombrotto, general manager of the Anaheim Storm. "We have had exciting home games and the energy from the fans is overwhelming. Both players and fans live for action like we saw tonight."
Michael Law (5G, 2A) tied the game, 12-12, with just 40 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. It was Law's fifth goal of the night. After three quarters and a 9-5 deficit, the Storm rallied with a total of seven goals in the fourth quarter.
Overtime lasted just three minutes with three shots on goal from Anaheim and five shots on goal from Vancouver. Randy Daly (2G, 2A) scored the game-winning goal for the Ravens ending it 13-12; he was assisted by Dan Stroup (3G, 1A) and Peter Morgan (3G, 2A).
In addition to Law, Richard Morgan (2G, 2A) and Roy Colsey (2G, 1A) scored two goals apiece and Chad Wittman (1G, 3A), Joe Ghedina (1G) and Chris Seller (1G) each had one goal.
Casey Powell (1A) left the game in the second quarter due to severe face lacerations after being hit with a high stick by Bruce Alexander of Vancouver. Cam Bergman (1A) suffered a severely strained elbow and also left the game before halftime. Jamie McKeracher sat out with an injured shoulder, a result of last night's game in Canada.
The Storm will spend the next two weeks on the road with games against Philadelphia, March 20th, and San Jose, March 27th. They return home to the Arrowhead Pond on Friday, April 2nd for Fan Appreciation Night, their last home game of the season. They will face San Jose for the third time since January.
