NLL National Lacrosse League

Buffalo, Colorado and Toronto Clinch Playoffs

Published on March 14, 2004 under National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release

The National Lacrosse League has confirmed that the Buffalo Bandits (8-4) and Toronto Rock (8-4) have each clinched a berth in the 2004 Champion's Cup Playoffs.

In the East Divison, three of the four teams in the division will make the playoffs. Buffalo and Toronto are tied for first at 8-4, and are each assured of finishing no worse that 8-8. Buffalo and Toronto are followed by Rochester (5-7) or Philadelphia (4-8) in the East Division.

Rochester and Philadelphia still have two more head-to-head meetings this season, meaning that either Rochester or Philadelphia will finish with at least nine losses on the season, and therefore either Rochester or Philadelphia will finish in last place in the division and not make the playoffs. Since neither Buffalo nor Toronto can finish in last place, both teams have clinched berths in the playoffs.

In the West Division, the Colorado Mammoth (10-2) clinched a playoff berth on Saturday.

The Champion's Cup Playoffs consist of five single-elimination playoff games to determine the champion of the National Lacrosse League. The Champion's Cup Final consists of the playoff finalists from the East Division and the West Division, and is played on the home floor of the highest remaining seed. If the finalists are similar seeds (East #1 vs. West #1, for example), the team with the better regular season record will host the Champion's Cup Final.

The top three teams in the East and West Divisions will advance to the 2004 Champion's Cup Playoffs. The regular season schedule concludes on April 10th. The Playoffs schedule is as follows. Game dates and times within the playoff weekends are TBD.

End of Regular Season: April 10

2004 Champion's Cup Playoffs

East #3 at East #2
West #3 at West #2
(East #1 and West #1 receive opening round bye)

Semi-Finals: Weekend of April 23-25

The 2004 Champion's Cup Playoffs will be carried live in Canada by The Score Television Network. Television coverage in the United States will be announced at a later date.
