Saugerties Stallions News Release

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - The Saugerties Stallions fell to the Amsterdam Mohawks at Shuttleworth Park 5-0 Thursday night.

The Stallions got a runner on first to lead off the top of the first inning all thanks to a walk by center fielder Jahlani Rogers but would fail to capitalize.

Amsterdam registered a hit to start their day at the plate off, but right-handed pitcher Bryan Boully would retire the side after the single by second baseman Gage Miller.

Both sides would manage to get a runner on base with two outs in the second inning from Saugerties' second baseman Evan Goforth and Amsterdam's shortstop Cameron Love. However, both runners would be left stranded.

Saugerties had an opportunity to get on the scoreboard late in the third inning. Catcher Niko Amory got on base with a walk and got all the way to third base. Rogers belted a single to put runners on the corners for third baseman Brandon Fish.

Fish would step up and ground into a double play to end the inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Miller managed to reach base on a single. The following batter in designated hitter Ian Petrutz sent a ball over the right field wall for a two-run home run to put the Mohawks ahead of the Stallions 2-0.

The Stallions would find themselves without a baserunner until the top of the sixth inning when Amory got on base with his second walk of the day. He would stay on the base paths as the inning ended.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Amsterdam had two more runs come across the plate thanks to RBI singles by Love and right fielder Zach Gardiner to make it 4-0 Mohawks.

The top of the eighth inning would show the Stallions threatening to score with the bases loaded and two outs but Fish struck out swinging and ended the rally.

The Mohawks would add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning when first baseman Cade Bush ripped an RBI single to score Gardiner to take a 5-0 lead.

The Stallions would go down in order to end the game, giving the Stallions their 13th loss of the season.

The Stallions fall to 15-13-1 on the year with a doubleheader at Cantine Field on Friday when the Boonville Baseball Club comes to town.

First pitch for Game 1 will be slated for a 4:30 p.m. start, with Game 2 following 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.
