
Americans Double up T-Birds

KENT - The Tri-City Americans defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 Friday night at the Toyota Center in Kennewick to snap the T-Birds four game win streak.
The two teams will meet for the third consecutive game on Saturday at accesso ShoWare Center at 6:05pm. The T-Birds won the first game 5-4 on Tuesday at accesso ShoWare Center.
Seattle (6-2-1-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two goals in 1:16 early in the first period.
Jake Lee gathered a loose puck in the neutral zone, skated into the offensive zone on the left wing and beat Tri-City goalie Beck Warm with a wrist shot over the glove from the left circle at 3:12.
Payton Mount chased the puck down the left wing in the Americans zone and won a board battle. Mount passed the puck low to Zack Andrusiak. Andrusiak sent the puck to Mount who had moved into the slot. Mount took a shot that was blocked and the puck came right back to him. Mount then found Noah Philp at the back door with a pass. Philp beat Warm, who had gone down thinking Mount was going to shoot, at 4:28.
Tri-City (5-4-0-0) cut the lead to one at 9:29 of the first when Connor Bouchard scored. Riley Sawchuk and Sasha Mutala had the assists.
The Americans tied the game 2-2 at 14-minute mark on a goal by Kyle Olson. Isaac Johnson and Nolan Yaremko had the assists.
Tri-City out shot Seattle 11-10 in the first period and 8-7 in a scoreless second period.
Parker AuCoin gave the Americans a 3-2 lead at 14:51 of the third. He then added an empty-net goal with one minute left to seal the win for Tri-City.
Seattle outshot Tri-City 9-7 in the third period and both teams finished with 26 shots.
Cole Schwebius got his second start of the season in net for Seattle and had 22 saves on 25 shots.
Warm stopped 24 of 26 shots.
