St. Louis Ambush News Release

St. Charles, MO - The St. Louis Ambush fell to the Milwaukee Wave in an 8-4 contest Friday night, November 28 at the Family Arena. If it felt like deja vu to the Ambush players, that feeling was not without good reason. The Wave defeated the Ambush in their November 8 home opener by the same score.

The Ambush started strong, drawing first blood just 48 seconds into the game, when Elvir Kafedzic scored off a pass from Odaine Sinclair. Milwaukee answered when Marcio Leite found Marcelo Fontana with no one covering him in front of the goal and Fontana had no trouble converting Leite's pass and putting it in the back of the net at 10:37. The opening period ended with a 1-1 score.

Milwaukee took the lead at 2:43 of the second quarter when a Victor Quiroz shot hit the board and Tenzin Rampa caught the rebound and shot it out of goalkeeper Greg Crook's reach. At 11:26, Odaine Sinclair was sent to the penalty box on a boarding call, giving Milwaukee a man advantage. The power play opportunity was all the Wave needed as Luan Sales Oliveira scored off a pass from Leite at 12:29. The first half ended with Milwaukee enjoying a 3-1 lead.

The Ambush closed the gap to 3-2 in the second half when Elvir Kafedzic went on a long breakaway and was able to beat Milwaukee goalkeeper Nick Vorberg at 5:22. Milwaukee increased the lead to two when Oliveira outmaneuvered Cody Costakis and got off a shot that found the back of the net. The third quarter ended with the Wave on top 4-2.

The Ambush closed the gap again at 5:43 of the final stanza when Odaine Sinclair found Kory Dowell open and shot him a pass that Dowell converted to a goal to make the score 4-3. Less than two minutes later (7:06), Pablo Da Silva scored on a restart from a pass by Leite to again give the Wave a two-goal advantage. Emanuel Forbes answered for the Ambush eight seconds later (7:14) to again move the home team within one of the visitors (5-4). Unfortunately for the Ambush, it would be their last tally of the night. J.C. Banks increased Milwaukee's lead to 6-4 at 9:01. Less than a minute later, Ian Bennett took a shot that Ambush goalkeeper Greg Crook managed to deflect. Crook went down on the save and as he tried to get back to his feet, wily veteran Marcelo Fontana appeared to fall on top of Crook, push him to his back, and take just long enough to get up for Bennett off another shot into the open net at 10:34. No call was made on the play, and Milwaukee increased their lead to 7-4. In the closing minutes of the game, with St. Louis employing the sixth attacker, Bennett scored into the empty net at 12:35 to make the final score 8-4.

The Wave out shot the Ambush 43-34. Milwaukee collected 15 fouls in the contest, while the Ambush were charged with 10. Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg made 12 saves in 16 opportunities on his way to his second win of the season. Ambush goalkeeper Greg Crook turned in another impressive performance, saving 13 of 20 shots faced.

The Ambush won't have to wait long for an opportunity to turn the tables on the Wave. The two teams clash again next Saturday at 6:05 p.m. at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. Fans can catch all the action at golivesportscast.com.
