Amarillo wins 3-2 over Sports
July 10, 2004 - Central Baseball League (Central League)
Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
Amarillo's Benny Craig's two run home run in the sixth inning provided the difference as the Dillas defeated the Shreveport Sports 3-2 Saturday at Fair Grounds Field. Craig's home run came off losing pitcher Gabe Council who was in relief of starter Jerry Knox.
The Sports had taken a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning after Jorge Alvarez had walked and moved to second on a double by Keto Anderson. Alvarez then scored on a wild pitch by Elliott Shaw, who had four wild pitches for the game, but picked up the victory.
Shawn Morgan pitched the final two innings for Amarillo to record his fifth save of the season.
Amarillo also came up with some excellent defensive plays, including the final out of the game on a ground ball up the middle off the bat of Joe Dusan with the tying run at third base as the Dillas second baseman Trent Otis made a diving stop to throw out Dusan for the final out of the game.
Amarillo has won the first two game of the series with the final game of the season between the two teams Sunday at 6:05 pm at Fair Grounds Field.
