Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls have added their 2nd North American Prospects Hockey League tender today (Friday) with the signing of forward Brendan Johns of the Esmark Stars (near Pittsburgh) U18 program.
Johns, a native of Greensburg, PA, had 9 goals and 8 assists for 17 points in 25 games for the Stars. Three of the goals came on the power play and another was a game winner. Johns also played for Greater Latrobe High School where he picked up 37 goals and 31 assists for 68 points in 20 games.
"It's a great feeling to be signing with the Bulls," said Johns. "I've been in contact with Coach Tony Attanucci for a while now and I'm glad they chose me. The weight is off my shoulders to know where I will be playing junior hockey."
The six-foot three-inch, 174 pound forward said he was able to gain terrific exposure playing in the NAPHL, and thinks fans in the Texas Panhandle will like his style of play.
"I'm a team player as well as a community guy," said Johns. "I am a tall guy who has a lot of speed under my belt, as well as a very high hockey IQ."
Amarillo Head coach Matt Nicholson is pleased to welcome Brendan Johns to the Bulls family.
"Brendan was a player that we came across in the Pittsburgh area," said Nicholson. "He's made the U18 Pens Elite Program for next season should he need to play at that level again. He's a player that has the prerequisite character and work habits that we try to exude with the Bulls organization and thought we would give him an opportunity to compete for a roster position."
Bulls Assistant Coach Tony Attanucci said Brendan's attributes are another step toward improving our need of offensive production and depth at the forward position.
"He has a pedigree of scoring with the Esmark Stars in the NAPHL along with Greater Latrobe HS," he said. "He's a powerful right shot forward with both work ethic and character. We see him as a late bloomer with his best hockey yet to come. His attitude and excitement for this opportunity to compete as a Bull is contagious."
Brendan Johns joins Cody Christofferson, Steven Ipri, Brendan Walkom, Eric Cooley, Sean Mallonee, Luke Edgerton, Justin and Brendan Mickhaelian as tenders for the 2015-16 season.
The Amarillo Bulls are gearing up for their 7th season in the North American Hockey League this fall. Fans are encouraged to purchase or renew Full or Half Season Tickets as well as 10 Game Flex Packs. Those who purchase, renew, make a deposit or set up a payment plan will be entered into the Draw for 30 Days Of Hockey that rewards Season Ticket holders with daily prizes.
