AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls gave their fans something to certainly celebrate on New Year's Eve.

The Bulls fired six first period goals and went on to rout the Topeka Pilots 10-2 at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The victory was the Bulls 8th in a row and extended their unbeaten string to 17 games. It also pushed their South Division lead to 11 points over second place Corpus Christi IceRays, with a showdown between the two teams set for this weekend in the Texas Panhandle.

Brenden Datema, Jason Brancheau and Trey Bagwell each scored twice for Amarillo, while Jordan Venegoni, Brett Abdelnour, Ryan Lautenbach and Nick Anderson had the others. Logan Jenuwine collected three assists, and all but three players earned at least one point.

The difference in the game was the first period as the Bulls raced out to a 6-0 advantage, including two goals in the first five minutes of play. The Bulls then added four more with three in a four minute span. Goals came off the sticks of Trey Bagwell with two, while Jordan Venegoni, Nick Anderson, Brenden Datema and Jason Brancheau with the others. The Bulls outshot Topeka 24-6 in the first period.

Each team scored twice in the second period as the Bulls pushed their lead to 8-0 with goals from Brett Abdelnour and Brenden Datema. The Pilots got on the board with two of their own as Brendan Shultz and Quinn Green found the back of the net to spoil the shutout of Justin Evenson. Topeka outshot Amarillo 12-11 in the middle stanza.

The Bulls came out and played a much more aggressive third period and were rewarded for their hard work with two more goals to round out the scoring. Ryan Lautenbach and Jason Brancheau provided the offense.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Topeka Pilots 44-30. The homeside chipped in three power play goals while the visitors had one.

The nine game homestand continues this weekend for the Amarillo Bulls with a triple header of hockey at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center against the second place Corpus Christi IceRays. Friday is Fort Night Night presented by Hamilton and Grant. Fans can try the game on the concourse and participate in dances during the intermissions. Saturday is Pucks and Prayers with discounted tickets for Church Groups. Both games face-off at 7:05 pm. Sunday is the second 4:05 pm face-off and it's Buy One Get One Free Ticket special.
