Amarillo Bulls Receive Super Team of the Year Award

AMARILLO, TX -- The Amarillo Bulls received a very special honor on Sunday afternoon at Amarillo College.

The Bulls were presented with the CL Duniven Jr Super Team Of The Year Award at the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony. The event not only recognized the Bulls for their accomplishment but also honored local high school teams, players and coaches for their successes. Three people were also inducted into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame.

Players from last year's team as well as the coaching and front office staff were on hand for the ceremony. Vice-President and General Manager Rick Matchett accepted the award on behalf of the team.

"We are thrilled that the Panhandle Sports Hall Of Fame recognized our organization for the accomplishment and presented us with the award," Matchett said.

Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams was unable to attend due to prior recruiting commitments looking for future Bulls for next season.

"It's a great honor to recognize last year's team and their accomplishments," he said. "I would like to thank the Panhandle Sports Hall Of Fame for this unexpected award. On behalf of the Amarillo Bulls, we would like to congratulate all the individuals and teams whom were recognized today."

It's believed that it's the first time that a hockey team has ever received the Super Team Of The Year Award.

Hockey returns to the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center on Friday and Saturday when the Amarillo Bulls host the Lone Star Brahmas at 7 pm. The Bulls will wear special jerseys in support the Texas Panhandle Pet Savers. An auction of those jerseys will take place on Saturday immediately after the game with proceeds to benefit that organization.

It's also Parents Weekend with a special ceremony to honor players' parents who will in the Texas Panhandle over the weekend. Saturday is also Scout Night with area boys and girls scouts invited to attend the game and receiving a badge for doing so.
