The Amarillo Bulls were selected for the award for their outstanding and ongoing support of the United States Military, Veterans, Law Enforcement, Firefighters and First Responders, and the mission of the ACHS. The award, a Bronze Eagle statue, will be presented to Bulls' Vice President/General Manager Rick Matchett on the ice between periods of the game between the Bulls and South Division rivals Lone Star Brahmas.
"The Amarillo Bulls Organization felt so honored that we were nominated for this award and now to receive the Great American Patriot Award makes all of us feel very humbled," said Bulls Vice-President/General Manager Rick Matchett. "Thanks to the United States Military, Veterans, Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters every day for unselfishly putting their lives on the line so that we can enjoy our Freedoms each day because of their sacrifice and thank you to ACHS for their mission to make sure they are not forgotten. We will cherish this prestigious award for many years to come."
In selecting a Great American Patriot Award recipient, the ACHS Board of Directors considers numerous criteria. Individual candidates and organizations must be of high moral fiber, good character, and committed in serving the common good of the United States. Each must have gone beyond the call of duty to serve and protect his or her country, with proven dedication and loyalty in upholding the Constitution and the laws of the nation. Finally, the Great American Patriot Award recipient will have worked tirelessly to make the U.S. a better and safer place for all its citizens.
"The Amarillo Bulls hockey team has consistently supported our military, veterans, law enforcement, firefighters and first responders since the War on Terror began on 9/11," says Barnes. "This organization epitomizes the importance of patriotism and very much deserves this special recognition. Thank You, Amarillo Bulls."
