Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls moved into a three way tie for first place in the South Division standings.
Collin Delia stopped all 17 shots he faced to lift the Amarillo Bulls to a 3-0 victory over the Odessa Jackalopes on Saturday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The Bulls, Topeka RoadRunners and Texas Tornado are all tied atop the standings with 33 points. Amarillo has the advantage with games in hand over the other two teams.
The Bulls tallied a goal in each of the periods and kept the Jackalopes at bay with solid defensive play especially over the final 40 minutes.
"It was a good three game stretch for us," said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams following the victory. "I was really happy with Colin Delia for getting the shutout as he has played well for us.
"It was a tough stretch for us being on the road for two games and we used a lot of your energy for those. Our guys came home and it probably wasn't the most exciting game we played as they were tired and a little beat up."
The power play staked the Amarillo Bulls to a 1-0 advantage. Tyler Deresky scored his ninth of the year from Michael Davis and Matt Sieckhaus at 3:15. The Bulls controlled most of the play, limiting the Jackalopes to very few scoring chances in the first stanza. The Bulls outshot Odessa 17-4.
John Rey gave the Bulls a 2-0 lead early in the second period when his shot found the top corner under the crossbar. Tyler Deresky and Mike Davis picked up assists on the goal. It was the lone goal of the stanza. The Bulls had several scoring opportunities but couldn't beat Phil Heinle. At the other end, Odessa could only muster nine second period shots and many of them from outside.
The Bulls dominated the third period, outshooting Odessa 18-4 and rounded out the scoring when Carter Penzien fired one into an empty net. TJ Sarcona and Geoff Fortman picked up assists on the goal.
There were 10 total power plays with each team having five opportunities. The Bulls notched the lone power play goal. The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Odessa Jackalopes 46-17.
