Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The North American Hockey League's Amarillo Bulls announced today that it is launching an ambitious "Little Bulls" youth hockey program to provide affordable access to families with children interested in participating in the sport of ice hockey.
Run by a staff of world-class coaches - including Amarillo Bulls coaches and training staff, Bulls skills development coach Phil Huynh, as well as guest instructors with professional and college experience - the Amarillo Little Bulls will offer skating lessons, hockey skills training and clinics.
The Little Bulls program will kick off in January with a series of free "Give Hockey a Try" clinics in which players age 10 and under will receive training, as well as a free set of equipment to use throughout the month-long program. Because space is limited, these free clinics will also be offered in February and March on a first-come-first-served basis with those dates to be announced soon. Registration is open to the public at www.amarillobulls.com/littlebulls.
"We are dedicated to growing the sport in Amarillo and that is why we are making a significant financial investment to make this happen," said Bulls Majority Owner Alberto Fernandez. "The potential for the growth of youth participation in hockey in Amarillo is virtually limitless, and we want to do everything we can to allow any child who wants to try hockey the opportunity to do so totally free of charge. This is just the beginning of many big things that the Amarillo Little Bulls will be doing to give back to a community that has so loyally supported the Amarillo Bulls for over ten seasons. We look forward to more exciting announcements as the Little Bulls program evolves."
As part of its massive investment in Amarillo youth hockey, the team also has announced it is in the process of planning construction of a new community ice rink and has already identified several potential sites in the greater Amarillo area. The proposed new rink would initially serve as the home of the Little Bulls and as the practice facility for the NAHL's Bulls, which plans to continue working closely with the Amarillo Youth Hockey Association to develop young hockey players. "The Little Bulls program will serve as a fantastic complement to the area's existing youth hockey programs and will only help grow the sport to include even more kids," said Amarillo Bulls Vice President Tyler Shaffar.
Due to limited space in the upcoming series of Give Hockey a Try programs, the Bulls will be offering the chance for five children to win a slot in the free Give Hockey a Try program during intermission of the Amarillo Bulls game Dec. 31 at 7:05 p.m. vs. the New Mexico Ice Wolves.
