Amarillo Bulls Force Fifth Game with 5-2 Win in Topeka

TOPEKA, KS - For the first time in franchise history the Amarillo Bulls will host a fifth and deciding game.

Mitchell McPherson scored two third period goals including the game winner to lift the Amarillo Bulls to a 5-2 triumph over the Topeka RoadRunners on Friday night at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena. That win evened the Best-Of-Five South Division Final at two apiece with the fifth game set for Monday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. Tickets are just $5 and can be purchased from the Bulls Office on Saturday and Monday as well as through the Civic Center Box Office right up until game time.

The Bulls held a 2-1 lead heading into the third period only to see Topeka tie the game in the first minute. McPherson's first of the game and then Mitchell Vanderburgh with goals 90 seconds apart game Amarillo a 4-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish. McPherson rounded out the scoring with a finally in the last half of the period. Brady Ferguson and Eric Purcell had the other Amarillo goals while Kyle Gattelaro chipped in two assists. Collin Delia making his third straight start in goal got the victory stopping 30 of 32 shots he faced.

The Amarillo Bulls came out in the first seven minutes of the game and took the play to the RoadRunners. Roman Ammirato had his slap shot stopped by PJ Bridges on a good break up the ice. As they have done in two of the previous three games in the series, the RoadRunners score first. It was screen shot from the top of the point on the power play. That goal was just the third combined by both teams in the series. Topeka outshot Amarillo 12-9 in the first stanza.

It was a great second period for the Bulls that took over much of the play, and when the RoadRunners had opportunities they were denied by Collin Delia and defense scooping away second chances. Brady Ferguson tied the game up for the Bulls at the 6:16 mark when he converted a great pass from Kyle Gattelaro. Ten minutes later, the Bulls took the lead when Eric Purcell fired a shot up high that beat goaltender Bridges on the glove side. Cody Gylling added an assist on the play. Amarillo outshot Topeka 14-12 in the stanza.

The Topeka RoadRunners outshot the Amarillo Bulls 32-31. There were eight total power plays with each team having four opportunities.

Once again fans are encouraged to buy tickets and come out and see the fifth and deciding game, the first in Amarillo Hockey History on home ice, on Monday at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
