Amarillo Bulls News Release
WICHITA FALLS TX - Defenseman Jeff Solow fired a goal and was the team leader in shots on goal on Friday night but it wasn't enough as the Amarillo Bulls dropped a 6-2 decision to the Wichita Falls Wildcats on Friday night at Kay Yeager Coliseum.
Solow scored in the third period to bring the Bulls to within two early in the third period, but the Wildcats put the game away with a goal on the power play with five minutes left in the game. Coale Norris netted the other Amarillo marker and that came in the first period. Brian Baker made his third straight start in goal and took the loss.
The Amarillo Bulls got into the first period quickly against the Wichita Falls Wildcats, but the hot line of Nick Santoro, Joey DiBenedetto and Michael Forman couldn't convert a chance in front of the net. Four minutes into the game, the Wildcats take a 1-0 lead when a shot from the side of the net went off of Jake Rosenbaum and goaltender Brian Baker and into the net.
The Wildcats added a quick second goal by scoring their 12th shorthanded. The Bulls got that one back on the power play just past the halfway mark when Coale Norris scored on a scramble from Tyler Gernhofer. Wichita Falls netted one more before the period ended on a five-on-three power play. The Wildcats outshot the Bulls 15-6 in the first period.
The second period was a stronger one for the Bulls despite giving up a fourth goal on a shot from the point that eluded goaltender Brian Baker up high. Coale Norris had a great chance to get his second goal, but he just pushed the puck wide of the far post as he was being taken to the ice. Amarillo outshot Wichita Falls 12-11 in the second.
Jeff Solow continued his great play in Wichita Falls with a goal as he banked a shot of the boards that deflected in off the skate of goaltender Justin Kapelmaster. Eight minutes later, Wichita Falls tallied their fifth goal of the game on a quick shot that went over the shoulder of Baker. Alex Cathcart came on in relief of Baker for the final couple of minutes and made a couple of nice saves before surrendering a goal to the Wildcats on the power play in the final 12 seconds of play.
The Wichita Falls Wildcats outshot the Amarillo Bulls 45-24 including 19-6 in the third period. Each team had three power plays with the Wildcats scoring twice and the Bulls netting one.
These two South Division rivals will meet tomorrow (Saturday) night for the final time during the regular season at 7 pm at Kay Yeager Coliseum. Tune into the action live on CBS Sports Radio 1440, online at www.amarillobulls.com and on PPV with Fast Hockey beginning with the Wayland Baptist University Warm Up Show 20 minutes before the puck is dropped.
