Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls limped into the Christmas Break on Saturday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Center falling 6-2 to the Corpus Christi IceRays.

The loss snapped the Bulls two game winning streak and it moved Corpus Christi to a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot with the Odessa Jackalopes in the South Division. Those two teams will meet in a key series beginning on December 29. The Bulls, who were minus several key regulars in the game due to injury and suspensions, remain four points back of the Fourth and final playoff.

The difference in the game was the opening period when the Bulls surrendered four goals, including three on the power play. Liam Ferguson tallied in the 2nd period to make it rain Teddy Bears and Stuffed Animals as part of the Toys For Tots Teddy Bear Toss. Fans covered the ice and helped to support the great cause. Jacob Nitsche netted the other Bulls goal in the third period.

The Amarillo Bulls came out flat in the first 20 minutes of play and were out-played by the visitors. The IceRays jumped out to a 1-0 lead by jamming the puck home at the side of the net. Special teams took over as Corpus Christi scored three goals in a span of 3:20. Two of the goals came from the blue line, while another was tipped in front. The fourth goal chased goaltender Anton Martinsson at the 16:20 mark, and he was replaced by Jacob Weatherly. The IceRays outshot the Bulls 17-6 in the first period.

After the IceRays took a 5-0 advantage early in the second period on a two-man breakaway, and a bad line change by the home team, the Bulls finally got on the board. The power play got rolling and it was Liam Ferguson who tipped home a shot from Tyler Hall and Matt Meininger at the 8:20 mark. In the final minute of the stanza, the IceRays notted their sixth goal by pushing the puck across the goal line at the side of the net. Despite the score the Bulls had the shots on goal advantage in the second 15-13.

The Bulls rounded out the goal in the third period as defenseman Matt Nehls sent the puck up the ice that was worked ahead by Charlie Singerhouse and Brady Crabtree. It was Jacob Nitsche that found the back of the net scoring on a centering pass from Crabtree.

Despite outshooting their opponents 8-6 in the third period, the Amarillo Bulls came out on the short end overall 36-29.
