Amarillo Bulls News Release
ODESSA, TX - Saving the best for last...
That's exactly what the Amarillo Bulls did here on Saturday night at Ector County Coliseum, by scoring three first period goals and rolling past the rival Odessa Jackalopes 6-1 in the final regular season game. The Bulls notched their 13th win of the season and 36th as a franchise against the Jackalopes in five seasons.
Goals came of the sticks of George Mika who fired a pair, while Joey Molinaro, Coale Norris, Charlie Singerhouse, Tyler Hall and Liam Ferguson added singles. Goaltender Anton Martinsson stopped 39 of 40 shots he faced and was solid in goal in his final Bulls' game.
The Bulls were short-staffed to start the game missing several regulars in the line-up and then lost two more when Phil Fromberger and Nick Santoro were sent off. In an oddity of stats the Bulls began their season in September with a win over Odessa, and concluded the campaign with another over the same team.
What a start to the game for the Amarillo Bulls as they capitalized on special teams and the Jackalopes flat first period. Coale Norris gave Amarillo a 1-0 when his shot beat goaltender Jon Flakne on the glove side. Later in the period, the offense caught fire again led by George Mika who converted a scramble in front of the net from Norris and Molinaro at 16:43. Less than a minute later, Charlie Singerhouse makes it 3-0 when he scored on a shot from the face-off circle. Jake Rosenbaum did a great job on the play keeping the puck in at the blue line. Goaltender Anton Martinsson wasn't very busy and made the 13 stops, while his teammates were able to get 23 shots on the opposition.
The second period featured lots of special teams with the Bulls having to kill off lot of penalties. Odessa cut the Bulls lead to two goals on a power play marker. However, Amarillo's response was better as Tyler Hall's wrist shot sailed over the shoulder of Jon Flakne. Joey Molinaro earned his second assist of the game. Odessa outshot Amarillo 17-12 in the third period.
It was a penalty filled third but the Bulls seized control of it adding two more goals. George Mika scored on a shot from Tyler Hall at 3:06. Less than two minutes later it was Liam Ferguson who scored from Jeff Solow and Michael Forman.
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Odessa Jackalopes 17-10 in the third period and 51-40 overall. There were 16 combined power plays with each team scoring once.
