Amarillo Bulls News Release
WICHITA FALLS, TX - An early goal in the third period sent the Amarillo Bulls to their 19th one goal defeat of the season on Saturday night at Kay Yeager Coliseum. The Wichita Falls Wildcats held off a late charge and beat the Bulls in another tight affair 3-2.
The Wildcats netted the game winner in the first two minutes of the final stanza and then held the Bulls the rest of the way. It was another strong night for the Bulls despite the loss as the team worked hard from the opening puck drop right to the final whistle. Tyler Gernhofer and Charlie Singerhouse netted goals, while Brian Baker took the loss in goal and played one of his best games as a member of the Bulls since coming over after Christmas.
The Amarillo Bulls opened the first period playing with a lot of emotion and passion and took it to the Wildcats. After surrendering the first goal in the first four minutes, the Bulls were able to battle back and use special teams to tie the game and then take the lead. Tyler Gernhofer scores on the power play as he grabbed a loose rebound and beat Justin Kapelmaster. Forward Joey Molinaro started the play with a shot from the point. Four minutes later, the Bulls get their 2nd shorthanded goal of the season and it the player who scored the first one, Charlie Singerhouse. His shot trickled in across the goal line to make it 2-1. Wichita Falls outshot Amarillo 15-8 in the first period.
The second period moved along in the Bulls direction as their special teams killed off a couple of Wildcats power play chances. In fact the penalty kill was a bright spot for Matt Nicholson's charges throughout the contest, as forward Charlie Singerhouse and several others didn't let Wichita Falls get any time to set up. The Wildcats pulled even with eight minutes played in the second period when a shot beat Brian Baker on the glove side. Amarillo had a late power play opportunity in the final two minutes, but goaltender Justin Kapelmaster was able to keep the game tied with some key saves include one off of Tyler Gernhofer and George Mika. The Wildcats outshot the Bulls 16-10 in the period.
Turnovers hurt the Amarillo Bulls to start the third period and it led to the Wichita Falls Wildcats taking the lead on a play in front of the net. Down the stretch the Bulls pushed forward looking to tie the game but were unsuccessful in putting sustained pressure including the final two minutes of regulation.
The Wichita Falls Wildcats outshot the Amarillo Bulls 46-26. Each team had four power play goals, with the Bulls getting the lone marker.
