AMARILLO, TX - Another member of the Amarillo Bulls talented defense announced today (Wednesday) his University commitment. Dan McDougall, who was known for his steady defensive play, has committed to Neumann University, near Philadelphia, for the 2011-2012 season.
"I am pretty excited to get into Neumann," said McDougall. "It is a great hockey program with a good young coaching staff that is only getting better. I really liked their campus and their location near Philadelphia."
McDougall, who hails from Clinton Township, Michigan had three goals and 19 assists for 22 points in 55 games. He had 100 shots on goal and eight power play assists. In the 2011 NAHL Playoffs, McDougall added three goals and three assists for six points. He picked up one power play goal and added a game winner.
"Neumann is not only getting a terrific hockey player but a solid individual," said Bulls Head coach Dennis Williams. "He was a very good leader for us this year in the locker room. My only one regret is that I won't have him for more than one season. Dan is going to be able to play with confidence and hopefully take his success this year and continue it onto Neumann."
Neumann University, a Division III program, is also a familiar place for Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams who coached there for three seasons, 2003-2006. Williams turned around the hockey program from a three-win season before he arrived, into a 17-5-5 record when he left.
"Neumann was the first program that gave me my first head coaching opportunity," Williams said. "To be able to place a guy like Danny where I first grew my roots as a coach, and Derek Hills in Bowling Green, is easy for me because both programs have been very good to me."
It was an exciting inaugural season for McDougall and the Bulls who captured the NAHL's South Division title and finished third at the Robertson Cup in Topeka, KS. McDougall said it was the best hockey season he has ever had.
"It was a great group of guys from the coaches all the way down," he commented "I couldn't have asked for anything more. I wish I could go back again for another year, but I am excited to move on to the next chapter of my career. "
McDougall is the fourth Bulls player to announce his university commitment joining defensemen Derek Hills, Karl Beckman and forward Cody Freeman.
