Amarillo Bulls News Release

TOPEKA, KS - The Amarillo Bulls posted their fourth win in their last six games versus the arch rival Topeka RoadRunners. Luke Edgerton had a goal and two assists, while Jeff Solow set up three goals as the Bulls dumped Topeka 5-1 at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena.

The victory vaulted the Bulls into a tie for fifth place, just a single point back of the Corpus Christi IceRays for the 4th and final playoff spot in the South Division. The IceRays were edged by Shreveport 3-2 in a shootout. The Bulls have an opportunity to collect four points and their first sweep of the season on Saturday night at 7 pm. That will be the last game before the Christmas Break for Matt Nicholson's charges.

Luke Edgerton, Charlie Singerhouse, Steven Ipri, George Mika and Phil Fromberger potted goals for Amarillo. Nikita Babintsev played well to post the win in goal, stopping 23 of 24 shots he faced.

It was a strong start to the game for the Amarillo Bulls. Charlie Singerhouse netted his 7th of the year when he one-timed a puck past Mike Rockwell from Jeff Solow at George Mika at 8:35. Mika and Solow kept the puck inside the blue line and were able to feed it over to Singerhouse who wasted little time to get the shot off. Five minutes later, the Bulls extended their lead when Luke Edgerton notched his 3rd of the season on a great 2nd effort at the side of the net. The power play goal was assisted by Jeff Solow and Charlie Singerhouse at 13:16. The Bulls played a sound defensive period preventing Topeka from gaining any traction inside the line. Amarillo outshot Topeka 10-8 in the first period.

Steven Ipri continued his hot play in the second period by giving his team a 3-0 lead on great shot from the high slot area at the 2:46 mark. Luke Edgerton notched his second point of the game with a solid pass across to Ipri who got the quick shot away. Topeka nearly got on the board on a 3-on-1 break up the ice but a shot went off the post and stayed out. The Bulls outshot Topeka 9-7 in the middle stanza.

Phil Fromberger gave Amarillo a 4-0 lead at the 36 second mark of the third period when he sailed a high wrist shot over the shoulder of goaltender Mike Rockwell. Matt Nehls and Luke Edgerton provided assists on the play. The Bulls were not done yet and used the power play to get their fifth goal as George Mika wired shot to the top corner from Jeff Solow at 9:20. Nikita Babintsev's shutout bid came to an end late in the game when a rebound attempt got away and Peyton Frantti slipped the puck just across the goal line.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Topeka RoadRunners 30-24. There were six total power plays with the Bulls going 2 for 4 and Topeka was 0 for 2.
