AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls, proud members of the North American Hockey League, announced today (Thursday) changes to their coaching staff for the upcoming season.

George Lewis has been hired as the team's new Assistant Coach replacing David Nies who has accepted a position with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League.

Lewis, is no stranger to Bulls Head Coach Rocky Russo, as the two worked together with the Philly Little Flyers of the Eastern Hockey League.

"We are very excited to have George join us," Russo said. "My personal relationship with him and my experience having him on my staff will be a tremendous asset for our program and for the Amarillo community."

Lewis spent three seasons with the Little Flyers program including one as Head Coach where he guided the group to a 45-10-2 and advancing to the ECHL Frozen Four Finals in Providence. Under Russo, the two guided the Little Flyers to three straight EHL Regular Season Championships.

Prior to joining the Little Flyers, Lewis spent three years working with Penn State NCAA Division I team, focused on daily practice, assisting the staff with line-up decisions, and video during his time there. While at Penn State, the Nittany Lions picked up their 1st 20-win season and moved multiple players onto the professional ranks.

"I'm excited to come down to Amarillo as an Assistant Coach," Lewis said. "I've heard nothing but tremendous things about the staff in place here, the community and the hockey. Coming down to Texas and getting to work at this level with these group of guys we have coming in will be great as well."

Lewis said he and Coach Russo have a great relationship and many of the same coaching philosophies and styles.

"Rocky is an excellent hockey coach as everyone knows," he said. "I was fortunate enough to walk into a good situation when I got together with him in Philadelphia. Rocky and I are pretty much on the same page when it comes to coaching from the way we think the game, prepare, and compete. We want to do a good job."

Assistant Coach David Nies has accepted an opportunity to move on to the next level, after arriving in Amarillo last season.

"We would like to thank David for his time with us," said Russo. "He was an instrumental part of our rebuild here in Amarillo, and we wish him the best of luck in his new endeavor."
