Atlanta Beat News Release
ATLANTA (June 17, 2002) - The Atlanta Beat today announced that Amanda Cromwell has been signed to the team's active 18-person roster. Cromwell, who started the season on the Beat's reserve roster, was temporarily activated off of the reserve list when defender Lisa Krzykowski was injured.
The Beat claimed Cromwell off waivers from the Washington Freedom prior to the 2002 season. Since Krzykowski's injury, Cromwell has started the last four games for the Beat and proved to be a valuable addition to the Beat's defensive line.
"Amanda has done an outstanding job since joining the starting lineup for us," said Tom Stone, Atlanta Beat head coach. "We've since posted three wins, all shutouts. Amanda has been a great addition to our team and she has definitely earned this roster spot."
In 2001, Cromwell started 18 games while notching two goals for the Freedom. A long-time member of the U.S. Women's National Team, Cromwell has earned 55 caps and was a member of the 1995 U.S. team that finished third in the FIFA Women's World Cup.
Cromwell will be filling the open roster spot of Anna Kraus, a defender and member of the 2001 NCAA National Champion Santa Clara Broncos, who the Beat announced is being traded to the San Diego Spirit in return for the Spirit's second-round pick of the 2003 WUSA draft. The Beat selected Kraus in the first-round of the 2002 WUSA draft. Through ten games of the 2002 season, Kraus has yet to play in a WUSA match.
Cromwell's activation will leave one reserve spot open to be filled at a later date.
