Alvarez to Coach Miami

Miami Tropics News Release
Miami, FL. Former Christian High School coach Art Alvarez was named the President and part owner of the ABA's new Miami professional basketball team. The team is owned by The Imperiali Organization, a global development company founded by 2008 independent presidential candidate Daniel Imperato that also owns the ABA's other south Florida team, the Palm Beach Imperials.
Alvarez, who led Miami Christian to two state titles and coached current LA Clippers and former U of Miami guard Guillermo Diaz while at Miami Christian, said he was excited about the challenge of running a pro team. "It's a great chance for me to give back to the community since I've been successful at the high school and with the AAU Miami Tropics," Alvarez said.
He also said that the ABA team will likely play its home games at either one of the Miami Dad College campuses or at the Miami Arena. The ABA begins play in November with nearly 60 teams. "The challenge now is to get the roster put together quickly," Alvarez said. "It's a great chance for me to bring back some of the local players I've coached in the past that haven't had the chance to make it by playing internationally to come in and play again and make some money."
