Altitude win fourth straight, remain second in NBDL standings

FORT MYERS, Fla., December 19 - Antonio Meeking and Lenny Stokes combined for 42 points and 14 rebounds to help Asheville top Florida 89-80 at Germain Arena on Sunday.

The Altitude (8-4) have now won four straight games, while Florida (1-7) dropped their seventh straight after winning their inaugural season opener against Roanoke.

Both teams traded baskets in the first half en route to a 34-34 tie score at the break.

In the third quarter, Asheville hit 57-percent from the floor completing 12 of 21 shots and led at the quarter break, 61-57.

It was a lead that Asheville would not relinquish, as the Altitude nailed 16 of 21 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter to close the game with the win.

The difference in the game was all free throws, as the Altitude managed to hit 22 of 31 free throw attempts for the game, while Florida only managed to go to the line 13 times, connecting seven times.

Asheville Guard Lenny Stokes led all scorers with 22 points, six rebounds, and nine assists. NBDL scoring leader Antonio Meeking added 20 points and eight rebounds. Ron Slay added 15 points off the bench for Asheville.

For the Flame, Kirk Haston led the way with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Kevin Braswell added 16 points, six assists, and four rebounds. Byron Mouton added 12 points and Cal English added 11 for Florida.

Asheville travels to play Columbus on Thursday while Florida will travel to play at Huntsville on Christmas day.
