Altitude too hot for Dazzle

December 7, 2004 - NBA G League (G League)
Asheville Altitude News Release

ASHEVILLE, N.C., December 7, 2004 – Ron Slay scored a game-high 26 points off the bench to lead the Asheville Altitude to a 117-104 triumph over the Roanoke Dazzle Tuesday night at the Asheville Civic Center. The Altitude shot an impressive 65.7 percent from the field breaking a previous NBDL record set by Asheville during the 2003 season.

"Roanoke is a good team," said Altitude head coach Joey Meyer. "We played unselfishly and had a fortunate night in which we shot the ball really well."

The Altitude found it hard to miss the bottom of the nets, connecting on 10-of-13 baskets from the field and 5-of-5 free-throws to close the second quarter. Setting the pace, Slay, who was on fire the entire game, connected on 6-of-6 baskets in the fist half scoring 16 points in only 13 minutes of play.

Roanoke rebounded following the first half, also heating up the nets knocking down 50% of their baskets after the third quarter to close a 16 point lead to 10. But it was the Altitude who proved to be too much down the stretch outscoring the Dazzle by four in the final quarter to secure the 13 point victory.

The game provided nine players with a double-digit scoring finish. Asheville played great team ball dishing out a game-high 30 assists, eight shy of the record also held by the Altitude. In addition to Slay, two other Altitude players posted career nights off the bench including Tony Dobbins with 17 points and 13 points for Tim Bowers. League scoring leader Antonio Meeking recorded 15 points and Brandin Knight chipped in with 14 points and a game high six assists.

"I can't recall the last game I say a team post 30 assists in a game," said Dobbins. "We have a mindset that we take from practice where we try to move the ball as much as possible and find the open man. Everyone on our team likes to play with one another and tonight it really showed."

Cory Alexander led the Dazzzle with 21 points. Terrance Shannon added with 18 points and Kevin Owens finished with a season best 17 points. Mike King provided 10 points off the bench as James Thomas grabbed down 14 rebounds to go along with his nine points.

The Altitude (4-3) will travel to Columbus to take on the Riverdragons Thursday, December 9 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Dazzle (3-2) will continue a six game road trip facing the Fayetteville Patriots, on their final stop, also on Thursday beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Crown Coliseum.
