Asheville Altitude News Release
ASHEVILLE, N.C., - The Asheville Altitude will face-off against the Huntsville Flight in the championship game of the NBDL Delta Airlines Post Season Classic, Saturday, April 24 at the Asheville Civic Center. Tip off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. and will televised on NBA TV on a taped-delayed basis.
The top-seeded Altitude claimed the 2004 NBDL regular season championship with a 28-18 record. In its first-ever trip to the NBDL postseason, the Altitude outlasted the Fayetteville Patriots in the semi-final game, 116-111, last Saturday.
"I feel certain that Coach Meyer and the Asheville Altitude players will do everything necessary to bring a championship to the Western North Carolinas", said team president Alfred White.
Featuring the league?s Rookie of the Year, Desmond Penigar, and the all-time winningest coach in league history in Joey Meyer, the Altitude finished the season as the only team to boast a winning record both at home and on the road. Following a rough start, Asheville fought its way to the top of the league standings on the heels of 6-3 finish in the last 19 games, including nine (9) consecutive wins at home.
The Flight also earned its first NBDL playoff berth this season and defeated the second-seeded Charleston Lowgators in the semi-final matchup to advance to the championship game. The leagues? best road team, the Flight finished the regular season with a 24-22 overall record. Fourteen of those victories came on the road.
Tickets are available in the lower bowl for $9 and upper bowl seating is $15. Floor seating is available for $35. Discounts are available for groups of 15 or more and children 5-17. Children under the age of 3 are free.
"This is a rare opportunity for our community and a first for our team," remarked White. "We can?t wait to finish the job and bring a postseason championship to Asheville."
This year?s postseason classic featured the top four teams in the NBDL in a single game elimination format.
"Both teams have players capable of scoring high numbers on any given night," Asheville head coach Joey Meyer said. "What makes these teams so good is that the strength is not in the individuals but in the team. At this point all the rivalries are out the door, it only matters what happens on Saturday night."
Fans can purchase tickets by calling the Civic Center Box Office at (828) 259-5544, visiting a Ticket Master outlet or online at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets may also be purchased through NBDL.com, by calling 1-800-4NBATIX or by calling the Asheville Altitude office at (828) 782-1012.
