Asheville Altitude News Release
Asheville, N.C., April 2, 2005 - Timmy Bowers scored a career-high 32 points as the Asheville Altitude slipped past the Roanoke Dazzle, 112-108, Saturday night at the Asheville Civic Center. The win snaps a two game losing skid for Asheville as they fight for home court advantage during the 2005 NBDL post-season playoffs.
"The entire team was disappointed by their performance last night and felt they needed to redeem themselves," said Altitude head coach Joey Meyer. "Tonight we shook up the lineup, changed the team's chemistry a little, and played smarter offense and better defense."
Asheville (25-20) provided their largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter as Bowers penetrated to the basket providing an 11-point advantage. Roanoke's Gary Hill-Thomas responded in less than three minutes of play scoring five points to pull to within four.
Asheville's Terrance Shannon, who was traded from the Dazzle earlier in the season, answered back with two consecutive jumpers and a critical blocked shot to increase the lead to eight.
Roanoke's Sung Young Bang, also recording a career-high 30 points, attempted to quash the Asheville victory in the final minute of play, draining two 3-pointers in less than three seconds. But Bowers, who connected on 6-of-7 free-throws for the night, drilled two consecutive shots from behind the charity stripe with 13 seconds remaining on the clock to secure the victory.
Both teams shot impressively from the field connecting for over 50 percent for the contest. Roanoke's Bang was on fire from 3-point rang connecting on a blazing 5-of-6 (.833) shots from behind the arc.
Five Altitude players provided double digit outings. Terrance Shannon contributed with 20 points and Joe Forte chipped in with 17. Tony Kitchings added with 10 points and five rebounds. Asheville leading scorer Ron Slay recorded his sixth double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as a reserve.
Roanoke's Miah Davis and James Thomas finished with 13 points each. Thomas also recorded a double-double performance grabbing 12 rebounds. Seth Doliboa scored 12 and Keven Owens and Garry-Hill Thomas registered 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Altitude will host first-place Columbus, Wednesday, April 6 at the Asheville Civic Center. The Dazzle faces the Huntsville Flight, April 8, at Von Braun Center.
