Alpena drops Phantoms

Alpena MI: With the IceDiggers sporting their special event NASCAR jerseys the second place club defeated north division leader Mahoning Valley 6-3 in front of 780 fans at Northern Lights Arena.

Drew Pierson (Pleasant Prairie WI) led the IceDiggers offense with a goal and three assists, Alpena native Erik Peterson chipped in a goal and two assists while Todd Rudasill (Powell OH) scored a pair of goals. Mike DeGrazia (Novi MI) netted one goal and one assist, Nolan Craner (Plainwell MI) also lit the lamp, Chad Billins (Marysville MI) and Ricardo Yesue (Allen Park MI) each had an assist.

"The guys played well both nights, tonight we were able to bury our chances and I am just proud of the way they competed for the entire sixty minutes." said 2nd year head coach Kenny Miller

Goaltender Mike Jarboe (Grosse Pte. Park MI) earned the win making 38 saves on 41 shots.

During the 2004-2005 season Alpena won 18 games and last season the teams first in Alpena the club won 13 games for a total of 31 wins in two seasons. With tonight's win the IceDiggers picked up their 32nd victory of this season. "We are happy to have won more games this year then the last two years combined but we know that in order to make it to Fairbanks we will have to play like we did tonight in the playoff's which is our ultimate goal." added Miller

Alpena will hit the road for two games next week when they go to Marquette on Thursday then head to Traverse City on Friday before coming back to Alpena on Saturday St. Patrick's day March 17th to take on the North Stars at 7:00PM. Saturday's game will be the last regular season home for the Diggers before the playoff's start. Both road games in Marquette and Traverse City will begin at 7:00PM.
