Indiana AlleyCats News Release

Anderson, IN (December 31, 2006) - The Indiana Alley Cats were able to hang on to preserve a victory over the Minot Skyrockets by a score of 102-101. The Alley Cats picked up 4 quarter points in the game. Indiana improved to 6-8 on the season with the win.

The Skyrockets jumped out to an early lead after one quarter, 29-26. The Alley Cats were able to come back with a huge second quarter to take a 58-50 lead into the half. Minot was led by Desmond Ferguson and Ray Cunningham, who each had 17 points in the first half. Shaun Fountain and J.J. Sullinger were Indiana's top scorers at the half with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

The third quarter was an eventful one that included an ejection of Alley Cat's guard Erick Barkley. Already playing the game without Carl Edwards, who suffered a concussion in Friday's game at Butte, the Alley Cats were down to 8 players. Minot held on to win the third quarter by a slim 27-25 margin. The fourth quarter went back and forth. The Alley Cats took a one point lead with about 40 seconds to go on two free throws by Fountain. Both teams missed opportunities on the offensive end, which set up Minot with the last possession, trailing by one. Cunningham missed a wide open 15-footer at the buzzer that would have given the Skyrockets the victory.

Sullinger had a team-high 28 points to go along with 9 rebounds. Fountain was right behind him with 26 points and 8 steals. Will Caudle just missed a double double with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Erick Barkley finished with 11 points to round out the double-digit scorers for Indiana. Chris Garnett had a team-high 10 rebounds in the victory.

Desmond Ferguson paced Minot with 32 points on seven three-point field goals. Ray Cunningham had 24 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to record a double double, but also committed 8 turnovers. Steve Castleberry had 12 points and 7 rebounds. Minot fell to 7-6 on the season with the loss.

The Alley Cats head to Minot to begin a 2 game road trip. They will face the Skyrockets on Tuesday at 8:05. The Alley Cats return home to face the Skyrockets on January 7th at 3:00. All home games will be played at the Anderson High School Wigwam.
