Indiana AlleyCats News Release
Yakama, WA (December 15, 2005) - The Indiana Alley Cats dropped a close game tonight on the road against the Yakama Sun Kings, 96-94. The Alley Cats were able to pick up 2 quarter points in the loss. They lost the first quarter 29-21 as well as the second quarter 27-22, which led to a 56-43 halftime deficit. The Alley Cats were able to win both quarters in the second half. They won the third quarter 31-22 and the fourth quarter on a basket by Chris Garnett with no time remaining, 20-18. The Alley Cats fall to 3-4 on the season with the loss.
The story of the game came on the boards, where Yakama held a significant edge, 59-37. The Sun Kings also shot 53% from the field. The Alley Cats were able to stay in the ballgame by forcing 24 turnovers while only committing 9. It was a rather weird game that saw Yakama get tagged with 4 technicals. The Alley Cats took their first lead of the game, 68-67, on an Erick Barkley jumper with 4:02 to go in the third quarter. They trailed by just 4 at the end of the third quarter, but they were never able to tie it up. They had a chance with 30 seconds to play when they had the ball, down by one, but Shaun Fountain misfired on a three-pointer that would have given them the lead. Jason Forte hit the dagger, a three-pointer with 11 seconds to go that put the Sun Kings up by 4.
Indiana was led by Shaun Fountain, who had an amazing third quarter. He scored 17 points in the first 7 minutes of the quarter. He finished the game with 26 points and 5 assists. J.J. Sullinger added 21 points. Carl Edwards and Erick Barkley round out the scorers in double figures with 15 and 12, respectively. Chris Garnett had a team-high 11 rebounds in the loss.
Galen Young had a huge game for the Sun Kings. He just missed his third triple-double of the season by finishing with 26 points, 18 rebounds, and 7 assists. Chris Alexander also had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Yakama had four other players finish with at least 10 points.
The Alley Cats continue their 3 game road trip with another game in Yakama on Sunday night. Game time is scheduled for 9:05. Following that game, they come home to host the Pittsburgh Xplosion at the Anderson High School Wigwam. Indiana Alley Cats season tickets and single game tickets are currently on sale.
