
Allen's Alex Lavoie Named CHL's Rookie of the Year

GLENDALE, AZ (March 26, 2014) - The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Alex Lavoie of the Allen Americans has been selected the recipient of the 2013-14 Central Hockey League's Rookie of the Year award following balloting among CHL head coaches, communications departments and select media members in CHL markets.
The Rookie of the Year award is "Ëpresented annually to the Central Hockey League player adjudged to be the most proficient in his first year of professional competition.'
CHL Rookie Scoring Leaders
It was the most lopsided vote in any of the voting categories this season with Lavoie earning 63% of the vote. The other finalists were Denver's Vincent Arseneau, Quad City's Thomas Frazee, Rapid City's Brett Kostolansky and Tulsa's Adam Pleskach.
The Anjou, Quebec native not only has a double-digit lead in the rookie scoring race but sits seventh overall in the CHL with 76 points (25-51=76). Lavoie has twice been named the CHL Rookie of the Month (October and January) and is currently in the American Hockey League on loan to the Oklahoma City Barons (the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers).
Lavoie joined the Americans this season after a successful five year career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and he becomes the first Allen player to win the top rookie honor.
The CHL Most Outstanding Defenseman will be announced later today (March 26) and the CHL Most Valuable Player recipient will be announced on Monday, March 31.
