New York Liberty News Release
TENERIFE, SPAIN - Rebecca Allen and the Chemist Warehouse Australian Opals obliterated Argentina, 84-43, and now have never trailed through two World Cup contests.
Australia contained Argentina's shooting to a lowly 22.3-percent. At the line, Argentina converted just 42.9-percent of its tries. On the other end, Australia was a 48.5-percent shooting team on the morning and captured a 35.3-percent clip from far.
The Opals held a lead as large as 47 before resting upon the 41-point final.
Allen, the New York Liberty stretch forward, started her second consecutive game registering five points, six rebounds and a near team-best four assists. She only committed one turnover in over 21 minutes of action.
The Opals will now enjoy a day off before their final game of the group stage against Turkey at 11:30 AM EST.
A victory in that game will ensure first place in Group B which will advance Australia directly through to the quarterfinal. A second or third-placed finish means they will have to navigate a quarterfinal qualification on Wednesday night.
