St. John's Fog Devils News Release
St. John's (November 15, 2007) - The St. John's Fog Devils are proud to announce that when the QMJHL All-Stars take on the Russian Selects next week, there will be a Fog Devil in the lineup.
Centre Jean-Simon Allard, who leads the Fog Devils going into this weekend's action with 26 points (6 goals, 20 assists) in 21 games, has been named to the roster by the league selection committee. The Fog Devils first ever midget draft pick, 4th overall in 2005, is tearing up the league this year with seven multi-point games and two separate four-game point streaks. He was named QMJHL Offensive Player of the Week for the period of October 9-15, a stretch that saw him record eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) in only four games played. Allard was chosen in the fifth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, 147th overall by the Buffalo Sabres.
When reached for comment about Allard's inclusion in the prestigious event, head coach and general manager Real Paiement stated "it's a good opportunity for Jean-Simon, he's progressed over his three years with us and developed into a star player in our league. It's a chance for him to get more exposure at a high level and a chance to play in his hometown [of Chicoutimi, PQ]."
The ADT Canada-Russia Challenge is an annual event in which a team of Russian Selects travels to Canada to battle the all-stars of each of the three Canadian Hockey League (CHL) branches. Each member league of the CHL compiles an all-star squad to take part in a two-game miniseries with the Selects, for a grand total of six Canada/Russia games across the country during the ten-day tour.
The QMJHL leg of the tour is first, beginning on Monday, November 19 in Chicoutimi, PQ and then continuing on Wednesday, November 21 in Gatineau, PQ. The games will be televised on Rogers Sportsnet, with Monday's game appearing via tape delay at 1am NL time and Wednesday's broadcasting live at 8:30pm NL time.
