All-USHL First and Second Teams Named for 2013-14

Chicago, IL - The United States Hockey League today announced the players named to the 2013-14 USHL First Team and Second Team presented by CCM Hockey as determined by a vote of League coaches and general managers.
All-USHL First Team members include goaltender Hayden Hawkey of the Omaha Lancers, defensemen Brandon Montour of the Waterloo Black Hawks and Tucker Poolman of the Omaha Lancers, plus forwards Kyle Connor of the Youngstown Phantoms, Scott Conway of the Indiana Ice, Matt Iacopelli of the Muskegon Lumberjacks, and Jake Randolph of the Omaha Lancers.
Players selected to the All-USHL Second Team included goaltender Cal Petersen of the Waterloo Black Hawks, defensemen Mark Friedman of the Waterloo Black Hawks and Alexx Privitera of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, in addition to forwards Jack Eichel of Team USA, Peter Krieger of the Waterloo Black Hawks, and Tyler Vesel of the Omaha Lancers.
Seven different USHL Member Clubs are represented on the All-USHL Teams, led by the Omaha Lancers and Waterloo Black Hawks with four players each.
All-USHL First Team
Hayden Hawkey (G), Omaha Lancers
Adding to his selection as USHL Goaltender of the Year and a spot on the All-USHL Rookie Team, he led all USHL netminders in both goals-against-average (1.99) and save percentage (.926). He is the first goaltender in the Tier 1 era to finish the season with a GAA below 2.00. The Parker, Colorado native won each of his first 12 starts, including a shutout in his home debut on October 26th. He is committed to Providence College following his USHL career.
Brandon Montour (D), Waterloo Black Hawks
The recently named USHL Player of the Year and USHL Defensemen of the Year finished ninth overall in scoring with 62 points (14g, 48), the most points in the USHL Tier 1 era (2002-present) for a defenseman. He put together an 18-game point streak in which he amassed 27 points (4g, 23a) and led his team to a 16-1-1 record over that span. The Ohsweken, Ontario native also ranked fifth in the League with a plus-35 rating. He is committed to the University of Massachusetts.
Tucker Poolman (D), Omaha Lancers
The 2013 NHL Draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets led all USHL defensemen with 15 goals this season, including a hat trick in the 6-5 win over Muskegon on October 27th. He finished third among League blueliners with 41 points (15g, 26a). His 10 goals on the power play ranked tied for eighth overall in the USHL and first among defensemen. The East Grand Forks, Minnesota native served as captain for the Lancers and posted a plus-20 rating. He is committed to the University of North Dakota.
Kyle Connor (F), Youngstown Phantoms
The 17-year-old was second in USHL scoring with 74 points (31g, 43a), which was the most points in a season for a Phantoms player. His 31 goals were the fourth-most in the USHL and tied for second in team history. During one stretch, he scored a goal in seven straight games, the USHL's second-longest streak this season. He produced a League-leading 30 points (7g, 23a) on the power play. The Shelby Township, Michigan native is committed to the University of Michigan.
Scott Conway (F), Indiana Ice
The Penn State University commit was fourth in USHL scoring with 68 points (33g, 35a) over 57 regular season games. His 33 goals tied for second in the League as he became just the fifth player in Ice history to reach the 30-goal mark. He recorded the first four-goal game in team history when he netted four in the 9-1 win over Dubuque on April 2nd. The Kissimmee, Florida native also tied for the USHL lead with a plus-40 rating, one of 10 players in Tier 1 history to reach that mark.
Matt Iacopelli (F), Muskegon Lumberjacks
The Brownstown, Michigan native, who celebrates his 20th birthday today, led the USHL with 41 goals, the third-highest total in the Tier 1 era. He tied for seventh in the League with 63 points (41g, 22a). His 12 power play goals and six game-winners each tied for second in the USHL. After netting his first USHL goal on October 11th, it began a League-leading eight-game goal streak. He also led his team with a plus-12 rating. He will play college hockey at Western Michigan University.
Jake Randolph (F), Omaha Lancers
The recently named USHL Forward of the Year led the League in scoring with 86 points (26g, 60a) while appearing in all 60 games for the Lancers. His 60 assists set a new Tier 1 era record for most in a season and established a new team record. He put together a 14-game point streak in which he tallied 28 points (8g, 20a). The Duluth, Minnesota native also ranked fourth in the USHL with a plus-37 rating. He will play collegiate hockey at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
All-USHL Second Team
Cal Petersen (G), Waterloo Black Hawks
The 2013 NHL Draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres finished the regular season with a 27-7-4 record and tied for the USHL lead in victories. His 2.50 goals-against-average ranked sixth among League netminders and his .915 save percentage was eighth overall. During one stretch, he was unbeaten in regulation for 16 straight games, posting a 15-0-1 record that included 12 consecutive victories. The Waterloo, Iowa native will play college hockey at the University of Notre Dame.
Mark Friedman (D), Waterloo Black Hawks
The 18-year-old was fourth in scoring among USHL defensemen with 40 points (10g, 30a) over 51 regular season games. He tied for fourth among blueliners with 10 goals, six of which came on the power play. The Toronto, Ontario native posted a plus-22 rating to ranked 20th overall in the USHL. He is a top prospect for the upcoming 2014 NHL Draft as he was ranked #124 among North American skaters. He is committed to play college hockey at Bowling Green State University.
Alexx Privitera (D), Dubuque Fighting Saints
The Old Tappan, New Jersey native finished second in scoring among USHL defensemen with 44 points (11g, 33a) over 57 games while serving as captain for the Fighting Saints. His 33 assists tied for 15th overall in the USHL and his 11th goals ranked third for defensemen. He will play college hockey at the University of Vermont next season. Privitera also helped Dubuque win bronze at the 2013 Junior Club World Cup and was named the tournament's best defenseman.
Jack Eichel (F), Team USA
Despite playing just 24 USHL games this season, the forward tied for 29th in League scoring as he tallied 45 points (20g, 25a). He had multi-point efforts in 17 games, including five points (3g, 2a) in the 8-5 win over Green Bay on November 15th to equal a League season high for points in a game. He had five multi-goal nights, including a pair of hat tricks. The 17-year-old from North Chelmsford, Massachusetts is committed to Boston University and is a top prospect for the 2015 NHL Draft.
Peter Krieger (F), Waterloo Black Hawks
The 20-year-old appeared in all 60 regular season games for Waterloo and put up 67 points (26g, 41a) to lead his team in scoring and finish fifth overall in the USHL. During one seven-game stretch, he netted nine goals which included three straight two-goal efforts. He also posted a plus-26 rating to rank tied for 12th in the League. The Oakdale, Minnesota native is committed to play college hockey at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
Tyler Vesel (F), Omaha Lancers
The forward was third in USHL scoring with 71 points (33g, 38a) while appearing in 49 regular season games. His 33 goals tied for second in the League and were the most by a Lancers player since the 2009-10 season. After dishing out two assists in his USHL debut, he scored six goals over his next four games. He equaled a League season high with five points (1g, 4a) in the 8-3 win over Tri-City on December 27th. The Rochester, Minnesota native is committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
