GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Road Warriors announced today that they have signed all-star forward Matt Schepke for the 2010-11 season.

"With Matt we are getting a very solid player. He knows how to score goals, how to take care of the defensive end, and he's an agitator, too. Matt knows what it takes to win, and I'm excited to bring in a player with Kelly Cup Playoffs experience and a national championship under his belt," noted Head Coach Dean Stork.

As a rookie with the Charlotte Checkers last season Schepke finished second on the team in goals (26) and was fourth overall with 46 points in 69 games. He was named as the Checkers' lone representative for the American Conference at the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game, where he registered two goals, tying him with Road Warriors teammate Connor Shields for the most on the American Conference. Schepke was part of a Checkers team that finished the season 43-21-8 and was the first seed in the American Conference for the playoffs. He notched six points (4G, 2A) in six playoff games last spring with the Checkers.

The 25-year-old native of Warren, MI played his college hockey close to home at Michigan State. Schepke was a part of the Spartans team that captured the NCAA Championship in the spring of 2007 with a 3-1 win over Boston College. A sophomore at the time, Schepke assisted on the game-winning goal in the semifinal victory over Maine. He finished his collegiate career with 54 points (28G, 26A) in 98 games.

The 5-11, 200-pound left wing also played two seasons in the United States Hockey League with the Omaha Lancers. He led the Lancers in scoring his final season with 37 goals and 56 points. Schepke was also third on the team with 98 penalty minutes.

All-Stars Schepke and Shields along with defenseman David Schulz are the three players signed by the Roads Warriors to date.
