All-American Stand-Out Ready to Join Pro Basketball's Aeros
September 26, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Arkansas Aeros News Release
Springdale, AR-Dujuan Brown has come a long way. From his home in Detroit via Paris, Texas (Community College) and on to national recognition at Oklahoma Baptist University, he recently signed a one-year contract with the American Basketball Association's (ABA) Arkansas Aeros based in northwest Arkansas.
"This is an opportunity that I could not pass up," said Brown from his home in Detroit as he trains and prepares for the upcoming season. "I have played professionally overseas (Luxembourg) but getting an opportunity to be in northwest Arkansas and the Oklahoma region will be like coming home for me."
Dujuan's high school basketball was played at Murray Wright in Detroit where he was highly recruited from around the USA. After the two-year stint at Paris Community College, he was prepared to attend a Big Ten school closer to his Michigan roots, but Oklahoma Baptist's tradition and interest won out.
"OBU was the perfect place for me for a lot of reasons," Brown explained. "They cared more than most people recruiting me, I trusted them and their history and location were factors that were appealing to me. I guess you could say that this Texas/Oklahoma/Arkansas region had rubbed off on me and I liked staying in the region."
Brown led the nation in scoring in 2001-' 02 for the OBU Bison. In just two years he amassed 1,898 total points vaulting him to second all-time at OBU. He was the NAIA "Player of the Year", was an NAIA All-American both years and All-Tournament at the NAIA National Tournament in 2000-' 01 and 2001-' 02 in Kansas City, Missouri. His OBU teams were 58-9 over his two-year span.
For all of his accomplishments, scoring ability and notoriety at the collegiate level, winning a championship eluded Brown by three games (quarterfinals) and one game (final) in his college days.
"We did just about everything we could do at OBU to win a national title," noted Brown. "That's one thing I plan on helping the Arkansas Aeros do and that's win a title. There can be no better feeling on the basketball floor than that."
Aeros head coach Bob Hoffman sees a key component of his 2006-' 07 team in the former National Player of the Year.
"Dujuan is a super young man that the fans of the Arkansas Aeros will enjoy getting to know. On top of that, he is a super talent on the basketball floor and will help us in a variety of ways this year."

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
