JOHNSTOWN - The Johnstown Tomahawks announced today that forwards Alex Alger and Casey Linkenheld signed their national letters of intent to play collegiate hockey at Miami (OH) University and Bowling Green State University respectively.

"It's a great day for these two young men as they sign their national letters of intent," Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia said. "Both have fully earned the opportunity to advance their careers to the next level. They have represented the Tomahawks greatly on and off the ice."

Alger, a native of Livionia, Mich., is in his second season with the Tomahawks. He was acquired from the Odessa Jackalopes last season and has scored 34 points (14 goals and 20 assists) in 36 games with the Tomahawks. He committed to the Miami (OH) Redhawks hockey program during the 2013-14 season.

The Redhawks are a Division I NCAA hockey team, competing in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).

Alger commented that the Tomahawks have prepared him for the Division I level.

"I get relied one regularly and I think that really helps with my development," Alger said.

A Barlett, Ill., native, Linkenheld has entered his third season in Johnstown and has accumulated 65 points (32 goals and 33 assists) in 85 games played for the Tomahawks.

In addition to Linkenheld, former Tomahawks Shane and Ryan Bednard are committed to Bowling Green State.

"The campus seemed like a great fit," Linkenheld said. "It was a great fit for me."

Competing in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, the Bowling Green Falcons are a Division I hockey program out of Bowling Green, Ohio.

"Both Bowling Green and Miami are two of the finest programs in the history of NCAA hockey," Letizia said. "I am confident that both of them will make the Tomahawks organization proud when they enter campus next fall."

Johnstown opens an 11-game homestand Nov. 12 with a Hockey and Education Day contest at 10:30 a.m. Additionally, First Responder Nights are scheduled for Nov. 13 and 14 home games against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
