Alexandria Wind Jammers News Release
Alexandria, VA. The ABA Alexandria professional basketball team has undergone a name change as a courtesy to DC United Soccer Team which is in close proximity to the city of Alexandria, Virginia. According to team co-owner, Juna Mackey-Padilla, "We are excited about becoming the Alexandria Wind Jammers. It illuminates the historical perspective of Olde Town as a seaport town in the City of Alexandria while illuminating the abilities of such a talented basketball team to "soar to victory." We thank Bob Lennox, the team Marketing Director for creating this new captivating name."
Lennox added, "Alexandria's ABA team will run like the wind, jam the basketball and become a great success story. The name Wind Jammers alone is unique even without Alexandria's historical aspect. Once the historical aspect is added, the name becomes uniquely Alexandria's and provides many levels of marketing and educational opportunities for the city." Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
