Alexander smacks 12th homer, Moritz extends hitting streak to six games BOX SCORE MONTGOMERY, AL - CJ Alexander rocketed his 12th homer of the season to right field, but the Mississippi Braves (28-37) lost 7-2 to the Montgomery Biscuits (25-33) on Wednesday night at Trustmark Park.

All of Alexander's home runs have come since May 1, which is tied for second in Double-A. The third baseman is hitting .246 with 12 home runs and a team-leading 33 RBI.

LHP Jared Shuster batted through 4 1/3 innings in his 13th start of the season. Atlanta's No. 9 prospect gave up three runs, one earned, off eight hits with seven strikeouts. The left-hander labored due to three M-Braves errors that helped extend innings.

Shuster holds a 3.53 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings this season.

The Biscuits led 3-0 through three innings. In the fifth, Andrew Moritz extended his hitting streak to six games with a leadoff double, but he was left stranded on third base.

In the sixth, Alexander cranked a solo home run to right field to make it 3-1. The homer came off Alexander's bat at 106 miles per hour and traveled 408 feet.

Down 4-1, Jefrey Ramos scored in the seventh on an error by first baseman Brett Wisely to pull it to 4-2. The Biscuits scored three runs in the bottom of the inning on four consecutive hits in their 7-2 win.

The third game of the series is on Thursday at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Alan Rangel (2-2, 5.08) makes the start for Mississippi against RHP Michael Mercado (2-3, 6.12) for Montgomery.
