Sioux Falls Storm News Release

The Sioux Falls Storm of the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) has announced that head coach Mike Aldrich has resigned to become a graduate assistant coach at the University of Louisville, where he will work with the defensive line.

"I am really excited about working with Coach Petrino (U of L head coach) and Coach Gillhamer (U of L defensive coordinator), it will be a great opportunity for me," said Aldrich. "I would like to thank the Storm for giving me the opportunity to be its' first head coach and I will miss being a part of the organization. The coaches, players and front office have been so great to work with, and that is what I am going to miss the most."

"This is a great opportunity for Mike and what our league is all about, moving coaches and players to the next level," said general manager Colin Steen. "We knew when we hired Mike that he was going to be one of the best young coaches in football, and this shows that others think as highly of him as we do. Mike will continue moving up in coaching because he is intelligent and works very hard", Steen continued.

Aldrich has a combined record of 18-15, 16-14 with the Storm and a 1-1 playoff record and an appearance in the Pacific Conference championship game in 2001. Aldrich began his indoor football-coaching career as the defensive coordinator for the Sioux Falls Cobras of the former Indoor Football League (IFL), where his group led the IFL in total defense that season. He was elevated to the head coaching position with three games remaining in the season and finished the year with a 2-1 record. He has been the head coach of the Storm for the past two seasons.

Aldrich was also the secondary coach and assistant special teams coordinator for Augustana College (S.D.) this past fall. The NCAA Division II Vikings finished the season with a record of 7-4 and a top ten finish in the regional rankings. Three of Aldrich's players earned All-conference (North Central Conference) honors, while one player topped the conference in interceptions and another was listed on the All-region (Division II Midwest Region) team.
